In 1915, as demand for Roberts' and Gibson’s designs mushroomed, the company signed a new contract with American Tool and Machine and Stearns- Rogers Manufacturing to handle the production. Sugar Centrifugal Discharger would receive 40 percent of the profits, with the two manufacturing concerns splitting the rest. The following year saw Roberts named Business Manager, along with the hiring of the company’s first stenographer. Roberts and his partners wanted to become more self-sufficient, and on January 17, 1917, they agreed to start a new production facility known as The Western States Machine Company. Western States was formally incorporated on April 11th , with offices at 206 Dooly Building in Salt Lake City and with Eugene serving as President. CHAPTER 1 10
