above: Photo of Marjorie and Eugene Roberts taken in Puerto Rico by Captain Forrest A. Rowell Jr., AC Whether it was Mom or Grampa who saw him first behind the potted palms, I don’t know, but I do know that the three joyfully got together at the dinner table, making plans, which included Forrest’s asking Eugene for Marjorie’s hand in marriage, and Grampa’s whole-hearted approval! Wedding plans were soon made at home by Gramma Roberts and Marjorie, and Mom and Dad married within one year, in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. The happy couple returned to San Juan for their long- awaited honeymoon, and afterwards, lived in Henry Barracks for months until Forrest’s military unit was evacuated from Puerto Rico, only two months before I was born! Thank you, dear Grampa, Mom, and Dad for this wonderful story, which I’ve finally put together for you in writing, after all these years. Love, Nancy Gene Nancy Gene Daughter and Granddaughter
