98 George Conrad was the successor to George Stevens as Manager of the Sugar Technology Department in 1965. Conrad had worked in the sugar industry since 1947, and his experience was invaluable as the company’s commitment to innovation continued. Nearly 30 years later, the International Sugar Society offered independent recognition of his contributions to the industry by giving him the Crystal Award. Through much of the first half of the decade, Dudley Parker divided his time between homes in Denver and California, and Dick Huser was promoted to Assistant General Manager and Chief Engineer to oversee daily operations in Hamilton. Dean Dove ended 41 years of service to Western States with his 1964 retirement. In 1966, Bob Jones was named General Manager after negotiating an Australian license agreement. CHAPTER 7
