202 Ingenio Risaralda Ingenio Risaralda, located in Providencia, Columbia, started in 1963, when the first steps were taken to create a sugar mill in the region with a master plan for national sugar development. The assembly of machinery and equipment had been completed by 1978. After testing, the factory started grinding an average 800 tons of sugar cane per day. The facility produces five kinds of sugar: muscovado sugar (a crystallized solid product having a grain size higher than that of the standard sugar, consisting essentially of sucrose obtained by an appropriate industrial process which preserves a film of honey that envelopes each crystal); white sugar, special white sugar, refined sugar and powdered sugar.
