On the brighter side, 1974 was also the year that Western States made major improvements to the CC-1 Continuous Centrifugal. Those improvements were also incorporated into the CC-5, which was first installed at the Godchaux-Henderson Sugar Company in Reserve, Louisiana. This proved to be a highly popular product, which was manufactured through 1994. It was followed by the CC-6, which debuted in 1977 and continues to be widely used around the globe. Growing sales put increased pressure on the company’s longtime home at 1798 Fairgrove, so in 1977, Western States purchased another building nearby, at 1910 Fairgrove Avenue. Known as the “Twin Fair” building, the structure was previously known as Fashion Frock, and had served as a parachute manufacturing plant during WWII. Overseas business also continued to grow. Western States struck up an agreement with the Taiwan Machining Manufacturing Corporation in 1976 to manufacture some components and sub- assemblies, and to sell batch centrifugals in Taiwan. In 1979, the Company established a new European partnership, contracting with Hein Lehmann of West Germany for manufacturing and sales of batch machines.
