217 San Martin Del Tabacal Ingenio San Martín del Tabacal was born and grew up in the uninhabited Monte do Norte Salteño, Argentina in the early 20th century, thanks to the strength of an entrepreneur, Dr. Robustiano Patron Costas, who began to acquire land in 1908, and in 1920 inaugurated the Ingenio Azucarero in a place known as "El Tabacal", near Oran, province of Salta. In the early years, while our company was steadily growing in sugar production, Don Robustiano Patrón Costas founded around the Ingenio, the 'El Tabacal' Town, building important works for the welfare of the community that began to inhabit the place, like the school, the chapel and a hospital that counted several rooms of care of first aid, own doctors and with 70 beds. In this way what had been at first an uninhabited place was transformed into a small, and very advanced for the time, city. For example, the first X-ray device in the region was in Hospital del Ingenio. Another of the great innovations that gave a great impulse to the industry was the arrival of the railroad that facilitated the transport to the centers of consumption. In 1996, Tabacal Agro-industry was incorporated into Seaboard Corporation. This new challenge allowed them to capitalize on their resources, open up to a new global market, facing new scenarios for the agro-industrial sector that contributed to the implementation of sustainable processes governed by high quality standards. At present, Tabacal participates in the sugar, alcohol, biofuels, bioenergy generation and bio-fertilizer or organic fertilizer businesses from the waste generated from the manufacture of sugar.
