Amalgamated-White Satin The Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC first began making sugar in 1898 in Ogden, Utah and La Grande, Oregon. Currently headquartered in Boise, Idaho, Amalgamated Sugar is the second largest refiner and processor of sugar from sugar beets in the United States. In 1934, Amalgamated Sugar secured the trademark for White Satin® to market its satin-smooth sugar products. The White Satin® name has been used ever since. White Satin® was originally promoted as "Oregon's Own and Only Sugar" before production grew into other areas of the Pacific Northwest.
